Selma Police To Wear New Uniforms

Friday, October 24, 2014 2:25:00 PM

Come mid November, officers of the Selma Police Department will be sporting new uniforms after nearly 30 years of wearing the same style.  Instead of the all-blue uniforms and taxi-style caps, police officers will be wearing gray shirts, dark blue pants with a gray stripe and campaign hats like those worn by State Highway Patrolmen.  The department will also be displaying a new patch that was created by Officer T. L. Avery.

Senior Police Officer S. Guzman wears the new uniform that the department will wear beginning mid November.

Need to find an event that happened some time ago in Selma’s history or research a historical event that may have been discussed in a Council meeting? Well, that information is now available at the tip of your fingers. The Heritage Center at 241 East Market Street in Smithfield now houses Town Council minutes beginning back as early as 1913. These minutes are now on microfilm and the Heritage Center has the equipment to read them. The Heritage Center is open Monday – Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. If you have any questions, contact Town Clerk at (919) 965-9841 Ext. 1004. For more information, go to the Heritage Center’s website at
