Parks and Recreation

Mission Statement:  The Town of Selma Parks and Recreation Department recognizes that recreation is a valuable part of life and it seeks to promote enjoyable, constructive leisure and recreational activities that will meet the needs of the surrounding community it serves.  The commitment to health education, entertainment, and high morality will be emphasized through all activities and programs conducted or sponsored by the Recreation Department.  The Recreation Department will strive to maintain activities that are beneficial to current population needs and create programs that are considered appropriate to the changing needs of the area in and around Selma.

The Recreation Department sponsors a wide range of youth, adult, and senior athletic programs throughout the year.  For youth we provide football, cheerleading, wrestling, soccer, baseball, fast-pitch softball, basketball, T-ball, and coach-pitch.  For adults we offer basketball, softball, and volleyball and for our senior adults, the Johnston County Senior Games.  In addition to athletics, we offer a variety of recreation programs, camps and clinics.  General recreation programs include karate and arts & crafts classes.  Some of the camps and clinics offered are volleyball camp, basketball camp, challenger soccer camp, and baseball and softball camp.

Festivals and special events, and special programs are provided throughout the year.  The largest of these events is the Selma Railroad Days Festival that is held during the first weekend of October featuring live entertainment, food, arts and crafts, special events, a children's area, carnival, the Selma Railroad Run, parade, pageant, and much more.

Recreation facilities operated by the Department include neighborhood parks, tennis courts, a gymnasium, outdoor basketball courts, picnic shelters, and baseball and softball fields. Many facilities are available to rent for birthday parties, company picnics, family reunions, and other functions.
