Mission Statement: The Selma Fire Department will provide the highest level of emergency services available to the Selma community by protecting lives and property through fire supression, emergency medical services, disaster mitigation, rescue services, and fire and life safety education and prevention. Our firefighters will be honest, professional, and safe; and will treat our customers like our personal families.
The Selma Fire Department is a Combination Fire Department operated by the Town of Selma. Selma operates from one station located in the heart of the Town. The brave Firefighters of the Selma Fire Department protect a municipal district of just under five square miles and a rural district of 15 square miles. We protect a large variety of geographical areas consisting of retail, industrial, residential, agricultural, interstate, highway, and railroad.
The staff of the Department consists of 28 volunteer Firefighters, 3 Career Engineers, 1 part-time Fire Inspector, and 1 Career Fire Chief. The volunteers are on call 24 hours per day and staff the station when possible. The Engineers are on a traditional A-B-C shift and one is on duty 24 hours a day. The Fire Chief works a 40 hour week schedule, but is also on call. The Inspector works 12 hours per week.
The Department operates three engines, one aerial, one rescue, two specialized foam units and one brush unit. Duties of the Selma Fire Department include fire suppression, vehicle extrication, hazardous materials response, emergency medical responses, fire inspections, fire and life safety education, and natural disaster response.
The fire protection class rating is a four district wide. Selma's rural fire tax rate is $.10 per $100 evaluation. The Department responds to an average of 800 emergency calls per year.
