Solid Waste Services
The Public Works Department provides several programs that ensure a clean and healthful environment for our Town. Public Works oversees the household garbage collection program that is contracted through a private solid waste company. Household garbage is collected once per week on different days in different areas of town. Our recyclables are collected once per week and carried to a sorting center. Public Works Department staff collects yard waste twice per week and home furnishings are collected once per week. Appliances (i.e., refrigerators, televisions, washing machines, dryers, etc.) and vehicle tires (off rims) may be dropped off at the Public Works Department. Collection of construction and demolition materials is limited to minor repairs/renovations performed by the homeowner. For more specific information about solid waste services, click the link below.
Stormwater Drainage System
The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining storm drains and open ditches located within the Town’s rights-of-way. Maintenance includes the cleaning and repair or replacement of catch basins and pipes that drain Town streets.
Streets and Sidewalks
The Public Works Department provides the following services: street maintenance, sidewalk maintenance, and street cleaning services. The street maintenance program addresses pavement repairs, street shoulder repairs, curb and gutter repairs. The sidewalk maintenance program provides on-going maintenance and replacement of damaged sidewalks. The street cleaning program sweeps all Town streets at regular intervals.
The Public Works Department provides operating and maintenance services for all the Town's vehicles and equipment, maintenance of landscaping, mowing of the Town’s properties and rights-of-way, and maintenance of the Town’s buildings.
The Public Works Department operates and maintains the Town's two burial facilities: Selma Memorial Gardens and Greenwood Cemetery. Cemetery staff provides year-round maintenance of the cemeteries’ grounds and coordination of interment services with funeral service providers.
